Zeke
was abandoned and left to fend for himself at the side of a lonely road
in Cobb County, Georgia. Call it a miracle, good luck, whatever
you wish, but an angel named Mary saw Zeke, stopped her car and took
him home. Zeke (the name Mary gave him) was literally skin and
bones. Yes, he looks like skin and bones in the above
picture. Believe it or not, Zeke looked far worse when Mary
rescued him. Those who saw Zeke, even a veterinarian, told Mary
he was a lost cause and there would be no way to nurse him back to
health. Being the angel Mary is, she refused to listen to what
others said. She had no intention of giving up on this creature
someone tossed aside like a piece of trash. In Zeke's eyes, Mary
saw compassion, hope, love and pleading. Turning her back on him
was not an option for Mary.
Under Mary's loving care, Zeke is
healing. He weighs 65 pounds, far less than he should, but far
more than he was when Mary came upon him along the road on that fateful
day. Zeke's hair loss is due to a severe infestation of
fleas. Numerous tests were performed on Zeke and mange, one of
the most common causes of hair loss, was ruled out. Zeke has been
on a number of medications and his hair is slowly growing back.
Before too long, Zeke will have a beautiful, glossy coat.
Sadly yet not surprisingly, Zeke
tested positive for heart worms. It will be necessary for him to
undergo treatment for heart worms. During that time, Zeke will
need to be kept quiet and will be allowed only a minimum of
activity. Zeke's angel, Mary, will gladly keep him during his
treatment, however, her funds are running low. It is estimated
that Zeke's treatment for heart worm may run around $550. These
are tough times for all of us financially. I told Mary, Zeke's
angel, that I would do whatever I could to raise money for Zeke's heart
worm treatment. I set up a fund where donations for Zeke's heart
worm treatment will be accepted.
