Update September 15, 2009: Zeke
is looking better and better now that he has completed his treatment
for heart worm disease. All he needs now is a new home where he
will be loved and cherished for the rest of his life.
Update August 13, 2009: Quite
a few people have asked if Zeke
gets along with other dogs. Yes, he does. Below are
pictures of Zeke with his pal, an older Golden Retriever.

Update August 3, 2009: Zeke
is doing great! Mary said she
can't thank everyone enough for their monetary donations. She is
not quite sure when Zeke will be ready for a new home, but she will let
me know. Mary also told me someone was interested in adopting
Zeke, but felt he was "too big". Clearly this person is unaware
of the joy that comes from having a large dog. Below are current
pictures of Zeke. Is Zeke not one
of the most gorgeous dogs you have ever seen? If
you, or anyone you know, might be
interested in adopting Zeke,
please contact his foster mom at Zeke
. Also, if you are with a rescue organization and
would be willing to post Zeke as a courtesy on your website and/or
Petfinder site, please contact me at Zeke's Courtesy Post
. Thank you for caring about this dear, sweet dog.

Update July 15, 2009: Mary
is
deeply touched that so many
people have once again made donations for Zeke. (If you would
like to make a donation, please see the July 13 update below.)
Unfortunately, Mary's landlord (she rents a house) wants Zeke gone as
soon as possible. Zeke can't go anywhere until he is completely
healthy which, hopefully, will be sometime next month (August).
If you, or anyone you know, might be interested in adopting Zeke,
please contact me by clicking Zeke's
Adoption . Also, if you are with a rescue organization and
would be willing to post Zeke as a courtesy on your website and/or
Petfinder site, please contact me at Zeke's Courtesy Post
. Thank you for caring about this dear, sweet dog.
Update July 13, 2009: Zeke
may or may not need more medication to treat his heart worm
disease. In addition, Mary, the wonderful woman who rescued and
is looking after Zeke, is on a fixed income and is struggling to feed
him. If you can spare even a few dollars for Zeke, please go to
the PayPal website and make a donation to my email address:
trunewf@ameritech.net I was going to set up a PayPal fund for
Zeke, however, if I were to do so, PayPal will take a portion of all
donations. If you wish to make a donation for Zeke using PayPal,
simply check the box "other" and include a note stating your donation
is for Zeke. If you would prefer to make a donation directly to
Mary via snail mail, please email me
for her address. Thank you very much.
Update July 10, 2009: Zeke's
treatment began yesterday, July 9. Zeke must remain absolutely
quiet for the next five weeks. Below is a picture Mary took of
Zeke yesterday. How different he looks from his first pictures.

Update June 16, 2009: Dr.
Averill, Zeke's veterinarian, feels he needs at least another two weeks
before the treatment for heart worm can begin. Mary (Zeke's
foster mom) said her landlord is giving her grief regarding Zeke.
Mary's landlord thinks she is stalling and wants to keep Zeke for
herself. Mary has tried her best to explain to her landlord that
she will find a new home for Zeke once he has completed his heart worm
treatment and he is strong enough to be put up for adoption.
Below is the most current picture of Zeke. Mary takes pictures of
him on her cell phone which is why they may not be very clear.
Even so, I think Zeke looks so much better than he did compared to his
earlier pictures.

Update May 28, 2009: Zeke
will be visiting his vet to determine whether he is ready to begin his
HW treatment. Mary says Zeke has become quite the cuddle bug and
wants to climb in her lap whenever she sits down. Mary said again
how grateful she is to everyone for caring about Zeke and for donating
money to help him. Below is the latest picture of Zeke. His
profile sure looks like a Newf, don't you think? He even has
jowls!

Update May 12, 2009: Mary
emailed me more pictures of Zeke. Zeke does not have a
tail. Long before Mary rescued Zeke, someone docked his
tail. Despite the lack of a tail, Mary says Zeke wiggles his butt
when he is happy. Zeke is very happy and playful in the care of
Mary.

Update May 8, 2009:
More than enough donations have been received for Zeke's treatment for
heart worm. Mary, the woman who rescued Zeke can't believe how
compassionate and generous people can be. Why? Following is
what Mary experienced after she took the time to stop along that
country road in Cobb County, Georgia to help the pitiful dog she saw
who she named, Zeke.
“I don't know what to say.....Oh my gosh...I am so happy.
Happy people care, love Zeke, that he can get
rid of those heart worms and be playing and running once again the way
he
should be. It is just almost
unbelievable what you have done. I know
you are an angel and Zeke says thank you to his angel Trudie again and
again. I have to admit my hopes were down
to think
there would not be a way to get some help and WOW you don't mess around
when
you call in the cavalry they showed up in full force a
runnin'....simply
amazing. OK, let's see (I'm so excited)
yes I will send pictures and updates, that would be fun...I just love
it that
people care because I got to tell you that day I found him I kept
saying ‘what
happened to compassion’, ‘doesn't anybody care any more’.
When I was at the county shelter asking for
help I actually said to them doesn't any body care, can't you help me,
please
help him,...and I started crying and took the leash back and said we
were
leaving. I told them that he wasn't
going to die. One of the street cars
passed, people wouldn't look at me, I needed help getting him in the
back of
the truck and finally a very nice man stopped to help me.
I was beginning to think I was in the
twilight zone or else I had become invisible..I thought how could
people be so
cold BUT you brought back all of our faith in human-kind.
We need to get this out where the cold hearts
can take some notes and learn that this is what we do to help and love
and not
throw away and destroy. I have to say
yes on him being for adoption even though I love him so much, my
landlord has
already showed her disapproval, she said she would have dropped him of
at the
county shelter and said ‘bye’, another cold heart I had to deal with. Thank you.
Thank you. Thank you to you
Zeke's angel and to all the wonderful kind and generous people that
have
emailed and donated. Zeke and I will be eternally grateful.”
Update
December, 2009: Zeke is home enjoying his first snow with
